Whether you are attending the 2023 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium® as a first-timer or you’re a veteran SABCS® attendee, the city of San Antonio has something new to offer every visitor.
San Antonio, a city brimming with history and culture, was founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718. In 1731, it became the first chartered civil settlement in present-day Texas. It’s now the seventh-largest city in the United States and boasts attractions such as the historic Alamo and the River Walk, which is accessible from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
Amelie G. Ramirez, DrPH, MPH, will moderate the SABCS® Special Session Social Determinants of Health—Impact on Cancer Care on Tuesday, December 5. She is Chair and Professor of Population Health Sciences and Director of the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio; she is also a Texas native who has lived in San Antonio since 2006, when she was recruited to establish the Institute.
Since then, she has had time to explore and find her favorite things to share with the 2023 SABCS® attendees, both from the United States and those traveling from other countries.
Your favorite restaurant that showcases San Antonio’s cuisine:
After we close the curtain on the last day of our biennial Advancing the Science of Cancer in Latinos conference, my team gathers to celebrate our hard work at Rosario’s on South St. Mary’s Street, where the food and experience is wonderful. This is just down the road from the convention center. The nearby Historic Market Square and La Villita areas are also wonderful places to enjoy food and fun. The Guenther House is a great place for breakfast.
